College Planning
Once your child reaches the age of 18 in Indiana, they are considered adults. When children go off to college, the parent may still want to handle some financial transactions for the child, make medical decisions for the child in the event the child is incapacitated, and have access to that child’s health care information in an emergency. This can give peace of mind to both you and your child.
I offer a College Package for college age students and young adults which includes the following documents:
- A Financial Power of Attorney – This allows a student to name a parent to make financial transactions for them. It covers a very broad range of transactions such as banking, insurance, taxes, and even financial aid.
- A HIPPA Release – This allows a student to name a parent to receive and have access to the student’s health care information. For example, if the student is hospitalized, and the parent is named on the HIPPA Release, the parent can get information about the student’s condition, treatment and medication.
- A Health Care Representative Appointment – This allows a student to name a parent to make medical decisions involving the implementation or withholding of care in the event that the student is incapacitated and cannot make them himself/herself.
The price for the package is $275.00 and includes a meeting with me where I explain the documents to you, and make sure they are executed pursuant to Indiana law.
